His Excellency Lord Augustus Loftus and family left yestercay evening for Melbourne, where they wiil be the guests of Sir Herry Loch for a short time prior to their departure for England. Pending the arrival of Lord Carrington the administration of the Government will be in the hands of Sir Jas. Martin, Lieut.Go»ernor of tho colony. No further details have been received regarding the reported massacre of the Geographical expedition by the Fly river natives. The rumor of their fate is generally discredited in well-informed circles.

Melbotjbne, Yesterday.. Nothing further is known as to the truth of the report of the massacre in New Guinea of the Sydney Geographical expedition. A telegram appears in the Age stating that two Malays belonging to the expedition escaped slaughter, and brought the news to Thursday Island, but they contradict each other in their version of the alleged massacre.
