MINERS OF VICTORIA.
The Amalgamated Miners' Association of Victoria seems to be in a prosperous condition, notwithstanding the depression of the mining industry of that colony during the past year. The annual report (we learn from the Ballarat Star) is of a most encouraging character. Tbe returns, as compared to that of last year, show an increase of four branches, 163 members, and £649 6d in funds. The total amount paid in benefits for the year was £8013 9s 6d, or an increase of £1223 17s 5d over the previous year The total paid by the branches since their establishment is £38,623 5s 9d. These figures give some indication of what may be accomplished by working men througb voluntary combination. By the moderate weekly contributions of 7795 working miners the association was able to disburse £4997 I6s 6d, in accident pay, to pay £588 9s 9d, to members on strike, and bestow no lens than £1876 11s, on charitable objects, and, notwithstanding these many disbursements, the association retain nearly £10,000 in hand.
