OUR FIRE BRIGADES.
(To the Editor of tbe Evening Star.) Sib,—lt ii a matter for regret that the Grahamstown Volunteer Fire Brigade should hare taken offence at the remarks made by one or two Councillors at the last meeting of the Borough Council, and consequently resigned. I am aure the Council at a body had not tbe slightest intention of Riving offence to a body of men who deserve so well at the hands of all householders in the place. Individual members of tbe Council at times make foolish remarks which they would cer taioly not make if they were conversant with the matters they were speaking of, and in my opinion the Brigade would in this case have shewn more good sense in j treating with the contempt they deserted the remarks which have given such offence to them. Speaking as a property bolder in Grahamstown. it will be a sad day for the place if a Volunteer Fire Brigade having its headquarters in Grahamstown is ever allowed to become nen est. I bare as high an opinion of the sister brigade as any of its staunchest supporters have, but in my opinion the district is too large and scattered ever to be efficiently looked after by one Brigade.—l am, &0., Paopßßir Howis.
