LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

Wellington, This day. The Legislative Council met at 10 a.m. in Committee on the District .Railways Purchasing Bill; the bill was reported with amendments. On tbe*question that the Bill be read a third time, Mr Richmond spoke against tbe bill and moved that it be read that day fortnight.—Mr McLean pointed out this discussion on the bill had taken place in committee, and should not therefore be put on record; he thought it would be worse for the country if they did not pass the bill than if they did; after a short debate the division was taken resulting in tbe bill being carried by a majoriy of one; the bill was then passed and the Council rose till 2.30 o'clock.
