The Alleged Scratching of Commotion.

A private cable received in Wellington *" from Melbourne states that Vanguard has split a hoof, and that July {sic) is also amiss. It also states that Commotion has been scratched for the Melbourne Cup—a fact which, if true, has not yet reached New Zealand through the ordinary channel.

The Melbourne Argus, which came to hand yesterday, says that Mason has resigned the charge of Robinson's team owing to a misunderstanding about Thun* derbolt, who has a badly cracked htel.
