It is announced that the new cable rates from Europe will be 2s 8d per word for press messages ; and 8s lOd per word for private telegrams. The cable-repairing steamer Sherrard Osborne arrived here from Singapore, and i proceeds to Tasmania to lay the duplicate cable between that colony and Victoria, after which she goes to New Zealand to repair Cook's Straits cable.
