The following telegram was posted at the Corner this morning from the manager of the Cambria .G.M, Co. •:— '•*' OOlbe specimens . from winze, No. 3 level j fair show left.-—Hi W« Moobe." A luter telegram states:—" BOlbs epeoimens from No. 2 stope east, No. 3 level; good show left.—H. W. Mooee."
The LaMonte furnace, erected undor the auspices of the Inter-colonial Smelting Company, at Yarravillc, near Melbourne, has bees successfully started, and Mr Lane, Superintending Engineer of the works now being erected here, who taw to its completion, has been congratulated on the per'ectncss of his work.
Mb W. Fbasbb to-day telegraphed to Mr Dean, Secretary to the Harbor Board, as follows :—"Governor's consent to Tapp and Dunlop's application to uee foreshore received and posted to you."- •■■■'■■,'• •
The man G. H. Fletcher, wbo was arreßted on a charge of stealing £8 from one of the bedrooms of the Wharf Hotel, was brought before Dr Kilgour and C. Haselden, Esq., J's.P., to-day, and, .'on his own application was remanded until to-morrow, as his counsel (Mr Lush) was engaged in connection with the Block 27 inquiry.
A consignment of fireclay is being sent to Karaagahake for the LaMonte furnace erection purposes. It seems a pity that no use can be rrade of the deposits of clay, which are said to be of good qualify, abounding in the district.
A SAMPLE of the tailings which have been deposited on that portion of the foreshore leased by Messrs Tapp and Dunlop will pro* bably be taken up to-morrow, for the purpose of shipment to England for treatment.
A VEST successful concert was given in tbe Weßleyan Church, WiHoughby street, last evening to a good audience. The Naval Band played an overture, and were followed by an address delivered by the Rev. Mr Best ; the choir sang " I will Arise," and Miss Rollerson tastefully rendered " Come unto Me; " Mr Lawry reoited " The Starriest Crown," and the anthem " Call to Remembrance" was very well given by Mro-Jonen7"MTßs M. Best, Miss Phillips, and Messrs Pearce and Lawry. " Listening Angels " met with every justice* in Miss Adams cure; Miss Ada Best reoited " The May Queen " with ezeellent effect; the choir sang " Arise ye people" j the band pUyed "The trumpet's sound " | Mr Coath with his customary ability recited " Billy's rose " j an anthem composed by Mr W. Ghribble " Intreat me not" was remarkably well rendered by the choir accompanied by the band; Mrs Jones and Miss Phillips charmed their hearors with a duet j " The Bridal Cup" was reoited by Mr J. 0-ribble j a quartette was remarkably well rendered by Mrs Jones, Miss Phillips, and Mes-rs Adams and Scott; "Incline Thine ear" was sung by tbe Choir, and a very enjoyable concert was brought to a conclusion by the doxology being sung.
The following cable has been received from the Colonial Secretary of Now South Wales in reply to one from the Government regarding the Bfßall-pox:—'' All- known cases of small* pox ia strict isolation on the hospital fOiip at the quarantine etatiori, were removed from the Oceanica, which left port on the 11th met., in quarantine. Should a case appear in Sydney your health . authorities will be dnly informed."
At a meeting of the directors of the New Albumia Gh M. Co., held in Auckland yesterday, it was decided to commence mining operations fit once by sinking winzes on two points on gold. Mr Mackenzie was appointed niine manager, and instructions were sent to lose no: time, but tonisia the ground and push mining operations. We understand that' the Company starts with a credit balance of over £1000. .
