Waiorongomai Mining.

New Find.—The drive on No. 1 reef north from low level is now extended to undcrnearth the winze, and men have been put on to rise and break through, which it is anticipated will be acconi* plished by the beginning of next week. In sinking the winze from the Arizona level, owing to the lightness of the air work had to be temporarily discontinued, and a few feet still remain to be sunk to connect with the drive. Stoping on No. I reef above Arizona level i? proceeding much aa usual, and yielding fair crushing dirt. Rising in this block to connect with the surface has been in progress during the last few weeks, and connection was effected on Wednesday last; this will permit of these Btopes being now worked to much greater advantage, both with regard to ventilation and accessibility. The surface of No. 1 reef is still yielding a large quantity of payable dirt. Good crashing quartz is also now coming to hand from No. 2 reef above No. 1 level. Continued wet weather still prevents the Diamond Gully section of the company's ground being worked upon at present. Some excellent stone has recently been coming to hand from the Colonist mine. Four separate contracts are being proceeded with by the Battery Company for breaking out quartz io this mine and the Canadian, which adjoins it; the contractors being Messrs Goidsworthy and party, Hornibrook and party, O'Shea and party, and Scott and party. We understand that nearly all the hands have been employed in the Colonist ground up to very recently. Battbby.—Returns for past week :— New Find—B6 trucks of general dirt: from battery, 54ozs ; tailings treated from same, 30ozs; 3 trucks crushed from Diamond Gully reef, 6ozs ; total retorted gold, 90ozs.
