AUCKLAND.

This day. The first performance of the " Sorcerer" by the Amateur Club was an immense success last evening. Everyone speaks highly of Mrs Kilgour's singing, and Miss Stephenson, lately a Thames lady, is credited with her correctness and expression, and excellent acting. A board of Volunteer officers sits today, for the purpose of inquiring into the wounding of Lieut. Woolfield, of the Cavalry, while fencing with Instructor Smith, and Capt. Seccombe on a lateoccasion. Startling disclosures are intimated upon the way officers and gentleman conu duct themselves occasionally after drill. The'clergy of the Established Church are working up their congregations for the mission services soon to ba commenced by two clergymen from England, who visit the colony for the special mission services. Considerable feeling is stirring in the churches owing to the attention being paid Gerald Massey's lectures, as prominent members of all denominations are to be seen at the Sunday night lectures. The City Mission and Prison Gate Brigade are reported to be doing excellent work in reforming and providing comfortable homes for outcasts, and securing them permanent employment.
