AUCKLAND.

This day. A little business was done here in the betling ring this week. Turquoise and Webster are equal favorites for the Cup, 100 to 14 being the best price. Mr Fordcr, editor of the Spectator, who was assaulted last week by the mem bers of the Deronport Navals, owing to an article in that paper, has had Petty Officer Slattery bound over to keep the peace for three months. Owing to the provisions of the Public Works Amendment Act, 1885, the Auckland Harbor Board's, as well as Thames, claims, against Government, will have to be abandoned. Mr Brodie had a long interview with the Secretary of the Auckland Harbor Board yesterday upon the subject. . .The Young Women's Christian Association, lately started, is reported to be doing a vast amount of good, 184 young women visiting the rooms, during the past week. . . The Eev. J. S. Hill lectures to-morrow afternoon on certain historical facts opposed to some uncertain fanpies. The Volunteer parade this afternoon is expected to be the largest muster held here for years. Fully 900 men will assemble; the day promises to be fine, and the men will assemble at Government House, then march to the Domain for Col. Whitmore's inspection. Thirteen companies have been warned for parade. The following are the Directors of the Antiquary Gold Mining Company:— Messrs McMillan, Gover, W. S. Harris, Philson, J. Howard, McWilliams;' and McDonald Scott has been appointed manager.
