Mr Mackenzie's lecture on "Turner, the painter," was well attended last evening, the Rev. J. S.fHill exhibiting photographs of several-well known pic lures of the great artist. The North Head Battery is to be called Fort Cautley. Col. Whitmore calls on out-door parade of Volunteers for Saturday. ; •■ ■ The City Schools are having applications to admit marriageable girls as pupils. The mail steamer is expected from 'Frisco on the 22nd inst., having left at time table date. . Mr LaMbnte has sent Mr Winter from Sydney to assist in the erection of the furnace at the Thames. Mr Carrick was eloquent. The Customs receipts yesterday were £1400. At a meeting of the Saxon G.M.Co., held yesterday afternoon, Mr F. James was appointed manager of the mine, and a call of 3d per share was made. Cambrias this morning are worth 22s ; Ivanhoe's, 6s.
