OUR MINES.

CAMBRIA. The centre of attraction continues to be the operations being carried on in the winze at No. 3 level. The winze is dosvn a depth of about 12ft., but the reef is lying very flat. 'Jhe reef looks well, particularly the hangingwall portion, from which the manager secured the excellent haul of lOOlbgof specimens this morning. There is a good show of gold visible in the bottom, auguring well for further hauls coming to hand from here. The western drive at this lerel has holed through to the crosscut put in on the hangingwall of the lode. The reef in the eastern drive does not present any change to report, though some nice mineral is showing in the face. In the leading stope which has been commenced westward over the drive at No. 3 level, there is a really good show of gold, while nice gold is also visible in the roof of the leading stqpe eastward. There is a considerable extent of good crushing dirt available here, the reef lyjog very flat, and being of great thickness. The reef in Ihe face of the intermediate drive eastward looks well, and carries some nice mineral. The western intermediate drive is still at a standstill, until a survey is made as to its position to the Darwin boundary; there is a good show of gold in the face of the second stops over this drive, while the reef also carries an abundance- of favorable mineral. The winse in progress on the No. 1 (or stringer) lode from the intermediate below No. 2 level is down a distance of about ISffc; the 31ringers look well, and show colors of gold occasionally. There is no change to report from the stones above No. 2 level, which continue to yield payable crushing dirt,

DAK WIN. The reef In the drive at No. 3 level i; penetrating a favorable clasri of sandstone, and the reef looks kindly for gold. Some nice mineral is showing in the stone, and colors of gold are occasionally seen in the hangingwall portion. Good colors of gold are Been in the quartz coming to hand from the stopes. DEEP LEVEL CROSS. Operations are being continued on tba rise on the crosslode above No. 4 level with very satisfactory results. The ventilation is not very good at present, but when communication is effected with No. 3 level—which should bs done in another 25 or 30ft—the air will no doubt be much better. In breaking down the reef to-day strong colors and dabs of gold were seen freely through the quartz, which speaks well for its payableness. The drive on the footwall leader is passing through a kindly class of sandstone, and colors of gold are frequently seen when the quartz is broken down. Crushing was commenced at the Prince Imperial battery yesterday with six head of stampers. SAXON. Stoping is proceeding on, the No. 3 leader at No. 5 level, and in breaking down the quartz goed colors and dabs of gold are seen. A little gold is also met with in the branch of the No. 2 lode at No. 2 level. CALEDONIAN. The manager reports to the effect that: " the leading stope has been taken back about 60 feet west of winze, close up to the hard ground, where the leader has gone small. This is now all timbered, and three other stopes have been taken away from the winze. These are yielding good crushing dirt, and some good .picked stone was obtained from here last week. The leading stope east is very nearly up to the faco of the drive, and timbering will be completed early this week. There •are also two other stopes taken off ia this direction. The leader is from sis to nine inches, and looks very well, colors of gold being seen occasionally. Thirteen loads from the winze on the main reef below No. 2 level, under the old shot of gold, yielded llozs 14dwts gold, or 18dwts a load. This is very encouraging, and work should be pushed on here forthwith. Sixty-nine loads from the Red Queen leader yielded 171ozs 2dwts gold, or nearly 2|ozs to the load." NEW MANUKAU. Mr Smith, the manager of the Waio tahi mine, has had a survey completed of the workings on the reef in the drive near the Manukau boundary, and as soon as Mr Bayldon defines the boundary — which will probably be to-morrow — operations «n behalf of the Manukau Co. will probably be commenced from the Waiotahi mine. . . GOLD RETURNS. KuBANUi Hill—A crushing for Le Manquais and party has produced 2ozs 16dwts gold.
