Lord Bandolph Churchill, Secretary of Stats for India, made a statement on. Indian finances, which show a deficit,-in the revenue of three millions, due to the recent military preparations. He also expected that there will be an increase in expenditure of two millions per annum on account of military services. Tenders for the South Melbourne muni cipal loan of £800,000 at 5 per cent, were opened to-day, when the amount was subscribed nearly fourfold. The average price is £104 16s. The branch Federation League of Victoria will be affiliated to the English League. Mr Gladstone is at present cruising amongst the Norwegian fiords in Sir Thos. Brassey's yacht Sunbeam. The proposal in the report of the National Bank to transfer £100,000 from the capital account to a contingent bad debt account has been cancelled.
