THE SMELTING CO.S FURNACE.
(To the Editor of the Etjbnino Stab.)
Sis—As we are mostly interested in the progress of the above concerD, how is it come about that no tenders were advertised in the local papers re the erection of the same ? I find by reference to Saturday's Heruld that tenders were advertised to be closed in Auokland on Monday, the 10th (to«day), thus ignoring local tradesmen, and debarring them of the chance of tendering for the same, as no specification or particulars have been forwarded to their agent here. If the Company thus " boycott" us* who have a moral right to be considered in the matter, all I can say is, the whole thing is onesided and unfair, as there are tradesmen here quite competent to undertake the job—and do it well, too.—l remain, &c, G. Henderson, Bricklayer. Thames, 10th August, 1885.
