Waiorogomai Mining.
New Find.—Good progress is being made with the putting in of the drive, on No. 1 reef north from low level, and about 20ft. of driving ought to connect with the winze sunk from Arizona level, which, when effected, will enable the manager to carry on stoping operations on a large scale in this block. Stoping is still being carried on in No. 1 reef above Arizona level, from which a great proportion of the crushing dirt is now being ob tamed. From the surface of this same reef a large quautity of dirt is also being forwarded to the battery, and is shaping satisfactorily. In the block in No. 2 reef above No. 1 level stopiag is proceeding, and good crushing dirt being obtained. The crushing has shaped much better this month.
The dirt from the Colonist mine ban shaped much better at the battery this month, and the Battery Company are so well pleased with the result of the existing arrangements that they haTe let a second contract to Messrs Hornibrook and Sampson for breaking out 300 more County trucks from the mine. They hare also let a contract toThos. Scott.and party to break out.about 300 trucks from the Canadian.
The following are the battery returns for the month ending August sth :—New Find: 191 trucks, 181ozs 13dwts; from old tailings, 3Oozs; total, 211ozs 13dwts retorted gold. Premier: 46 trucks, 15ozs 2dwts melted gold. Colonist: 172 trucks (which more than completes the contract recently let), 131ozs lOdwts retorted gold. The battery is now employed as follows : —New Find, 20 head ; Colonist, 15 head ; Vermont tribute (Sly and party) 5 head. Tailings plant: 26 berdans working for New Find, 9 for Battery Company.
