OUR MINES.
CALEDONIAN LOW LEVEL
The crushing of the trial parcels from the supposed Cambria lode and the reef last cut in the north crosscut, were com pleted to«day. Four loads from the former reef yielded loz 19dwta retorted gold, while 4 loads from the latter only produced 9dwts gold. The quartz crushed from the northern crosscut, however, was heavily charged with antimony and other minerals, and scoured the plates. DEEP LEVEL CROSS. The rise on the reef from No. 4 level □ear the slide is now up a distance of 45ft, the reef being from 3 to 4ft in thickness. The quartz is of a very kindly class for gold, which has been seen pretty freely in colors and dabs for the past few days, while in breaking down last night, the manager secured the encouraging haul of lOlbs of specimens. The stone is of very fair quality, the gold being disseminated through it, and was obtained from the footwall portion of the reef. It will be remembered that good gold was obtained in this vicinity some time ago, but operations hud to, be discontinued, as it was feared an influx of water would occur, such as would seriously interfere with operations in the Prince Imperial mine. Since then, however, communication has been effected with the Big Pump, and the country having consequently drained, the manager commenced the rise referred to, three or four weeks ago. The greater part of the distance risen has been in broken ground, but the reef is now in solid sandstone, and a good payable block will no doubt be opened up. The manager considers that a block some 100 ft in length and 80 or 90ft in height could easily be opened up on the reef here.
j DARWIN. The crushing for about 40 loads of general dirt for this company was completed to-day for the return of 25oza 4dwts gold. SILVER CROWN(TARARU).
