July has been backed for the Melbourne Cup to win £1,500. although a good authority says his owner does not intend to send him ; neither will Trenton go.
Turquoise has been backed nt 100's to 10 for the New Zealand Cup The Dauphin, who was injured about five months ago at the Takapuna races, is pronounced to be almost cured. Halstead, veterinary surgeon, and Burr ell, the attendant, are complimented upon thfir success.
The coursing match ypsterday was well attended. Watson's Patent beat Exonite, winning Buckland'sCup and £30; Faugh* a-Ballagh and Heather Bell taking third and fourth prizes.
