In breaking down No. 1 reef in the
drive last night, strong blotches of gold were again seen in the solid stone. Tbe lode is from 1 foot to 18 iuches wide, and there are 300 or 400 ft. to prospect up to the old Queen of England workings. QUEEN OF BEAUTY. Stoping is proceeding on a reef at No. 5 1 level, in which gold is seen in breaking, and the quartz should prove payable. The reef averages about 3ft. in thickness, and is well mineralised. WAIOTAHI. The mine manager reports under date the 20th inst. that "the tributers' lode, No. 3 level, has been greatly knocked about last week, a slide coming in, but it is looking better again, and I have seen a little gold in it. I have about 30 feet to drive to Manukau boundary, and hope to reach it in about a fortnight.'' This is probably the cause of the inquiry for Manukau shares during the past f«w days. NORTH STAR. The country in the drive has been somewhat tight during the past fortnight, but a favorable class of sandstone is now coming in. The reef is 12 or 16 inches in thicknejs, and carries some nice minerals, though no gold has been ob served in the quartz lately. SILv-ER CEOWN (TAKAEU). The proprietors of thir mine will prob» ablj break oat a trial parcel, say 20 tons, for shipment to Australia, there to be tested by Mr LaMonte. CALEDONIAN LOW LEVEL. The picked stone did, not yield equal to appearance, the gold being fine.—Kiely ha 3 about ICO torts of quartz to hand, which should be as good as last.—Leahy is now on quartz likely to be payable. GOLD RETURNS. Moanataibi.—A crushing for McCann and party, tributers, has produced 14ozs lOdwts gold.
