PARLIAMENTARY GOSSIP.

(FBOM OUB OWN COBBEBFONDENT.)
Wellington, This day.
I understand that the Public Works Amendment Bill, is lo be introduced to day'; it .will'contain a proposal for the establishment of non-political boards for the management of railways. All interest in this scheme, however, has gone, from the knowledge that Government do not intend to press the proposed change, and the bilkwill be quietly dropped^
Nothing is known yet as to when the Public Works Statement will be brought down. I understand that all public works proposals will be based on the contingency of the million loan being raised, but as this latter is not likely to be agreed to by the House, it is hard to imagine what the public works proposals will amount to if the loan is refused.
Sir Julius Vogel to-day moved his San Francisco Mail Service. There will resolution regarding the contract of the probably be an interesting debate on the subject, as many members are inclined towards the abandonment of the subsidy to the American lino, in favor of assisting direct steamers.
