The city of Sydney with the June English mails, left Sau Francisco for Audi land on the sth inst., one day late. The Australia with the June colonial mails arrirrd at San Francisco from Auckland on the 12th inst., two days in advance of time table date.
The 21 sailors who refused to go to "Guam" in the s.s. Coptic have instructed Mr Shaw to tako proceedings against the master and owners of the vessel for unlawful prosecution.
A man named Frederick Stock was arrested this morning on a charge of stealing an overcoat and papers amounting in value to .£7OO from a native chief named Wiri Turoa at Poxton.
. A deputation from employers of females and boys waited on Mr Stout today, protesting against the Bradshaw clause in the Factories Act Amendment Bill. The deputation urged that they were frequently called upon in cases of emergency to keep their employes after hours. Mr Stout, in reply, said as far as girls were concerned he would not make any alteration, but he suggested that when the Bill was before the Council a clause should be inserted providing for the issue of permits, in cases of emergency, for the employment of boys only after ordinary hours.
