TAUEANGA ELECTION. TO THE GENTLEMEN THIS SIDE OF KATIKATI. """" ji| INERS,—HoId your Promisee till you have heard L. M. Gbace Rod bis version of what Mining means to the Colony. He v well supported on hie side of the Bidge, and he may be a second Sheehan. For his Committee,— GEO. HABCOUET. ELECTORS OF THE TAUEANGA ELECTOEATE. r\ ENTLEMEN,—I have the honor to announce my intention of again being a candidate for the vacant seat in the House of Repr-eentatives. If the high honor of being returned to Parliament by my fellow settlers is accorded to me, no efforts on my part will be spared to merit their confidence, and my earnest attention will ba given to the many and pressing wants and requirements of the Electorate. I am, Gentlemen t Your obedient Servant, WILLIAM KBLLY.
TO THE ELECTOES OF THE ELECTORAL DISTRICT OF TAU* RANGA. /"I ENTLEMEN,—As a great number of vT the Electors hare requested me to come forward, I have the honor to announce myself as a Candidate to represent you_ in Parliament. I therefore request your kind support, vote 1, and interest, and beg of you not to pledge yourselves in any direction before hearing the viewß of the competing Candidates. Belie Ting that the present Government, under the leadership of the Hon. Mr Stout and Sir Julius Vogel* has managed the> affairs of tho Colony in such a way as to give general satisfaction, I am prepared to give it a hearty and independent support, so long bs I believe its polioy beneficial to the Colony, but I will not hesitate to oppose ifc on any question in which I may consider its action detrimental to the interests of the Colony and your district in particular. In my opinion, the following are some of tho chief points requiring attention: —(1.) Native land Laws; Native Land Administration throughout this district, and Amendmonts in the Thermal SpriDgs Proclamation. (2.) The Tuuranga-Botoruj, Eailwsy, and extension to Opotiki. This would open up a large area of good agricultural land on the Coast which is practically closed. (3.) Public Worts, commencing with your Harbor. The pressing need of road cpmmunication with Whakatano and Opotiki, and opening up of the bush lands between Tauranga and Rotorua. . I shall also use my test exertions to have the law dealing with Mining matters improved, as I consider the present system inflicts a grave injustice on a large and deserving class of the community. If you do me the honor of returning me as your representative, my best exeitiona will be devoted to.secure that justice to the East Coast which has bo long been denied it. I shall take an early opportunity of addressing the Electors in every convenient part of the electorate, when I hope to state my views more fully. I remain, G-entlemen, Faithfully yours, LAURENCE MARBHALL GRACE.
