PARLIAMENTARY GOSSIP.

[By Telegbaph.] (fbom oub own coebespondent.)

Wellington, Last night.

An extra conference at Sir J. Vogel's residence this afternoon was attended by 52 members, when Government agreed to the suggestions made this morning, and will withdraw the Tariff proposals and the proposal for Local Bodies to borrow on subsidies. Il was also stated that subsidies to Local Bodies would only be continued for two years.

In the House this evening, Mr Stout made a statement to the above effect, and the resolution, as passed on the 19th June, were resumed upon the motion of the Premier. Deficiency revenue will be provided for by deficiency bills, and defence expenditure charged to loan.

The Ministerial crisis which has been threatening all day, is now orer, and the promised excitement over which press correspondents were becoming jubilant has quite evaporated. All danger, however, is not considered to be over, as it is pointed out that any Government that is once coerced into departing from its policy may be attacked and coerced again and again. It is believed that Mr Soutwas anxious to resign this morning, but that he was over-influenced by Sir J. Vogel to submit to the dictation of private members. Much surprise is expressed that Mr Stoijt should have submitted to such humiliation.
