(Pee Puess Association.) Napieb, This day. There is tho largest attendance ever known at a steeplechase or any other meeting on the Hustings conrse. The weather is fine, though a bit sharp, and the running ground in capital order Everything promises well for a successful meeting. The racing coinmericed with the Maiden Steeplechase, of lOOsovs.; two miles. —Dennett's Faugh-a.Ballagh, 1; Gilpin's Pastime, 2; Barron's Director, 3Tho other starters were—Mountaineer, Dhudeen, Ely, Rimu, Silver King, Fair Play, and Nukarau. The betting was 5 to 2on the field. Pastime and Director got the best of an indifferent start, but after the first jump Faugh-a-Ballagh took the lead, with Director and Pastime in' close attendance. Ely fell at the stone trail, and Nukurau baulked. The water jump in front of the stand was taken by Pastime and Faugh-a Ballagh together, Director and Silver King next, Nukurau being last. At the stono wall leading out •f the course, Silver King and M ountaineer fell; going through the ploughed ground, Pastime andFaugh-a Ballagh had a great lead. The stone wail into the course proper was taken by the two together, the rest being nowhere. At the last fence, Faugh-a-Ballagh took the lead, and won by three lengths; Director, fifteen lengths off, third. Totalisator dividend: Inside, £17 3s; outside, £16 ■65./ ■■■'■ -■ ■ ' ■ ; • ■• ■. ■ Lyford and F. Hedge were badly hurt in the Maiden Steeplechase. Ladies' Bbacblet, of lOOsovs.; 2 milei Weights: 4 years, list 12lbs; 6 years "and aged, 12st 31bs; no allowance.— Amazon, 1; Leader, 2; Chief Mourner; 3; The following also ran: Flemington, Imposter, Taukara, Moor, Tuparoa, Donald Dinnie, Quicksilver, First Whip, Fern Flat, Silver King. Paribaka, and Hackfall. Imposter, Fern Flat, and Moore were the favorites. The fifteen were despatched to a good start, Flemington at once showing prominently, but he was speedily deprived of the lead by Tauhara. Passing the stand, the order was —-Amazon, Leader, and then followed half a dozen in a bunch; Moor ran off at the back of the course. Amazon still led on entering the straight, passing the post two lengths in front; a length separating the second and third horses. Thomas, the rider of Donald Dinnie, had his leg badly-injured by running against a post. Totalisator dividends -.outside, £13 16s; inside, £16 15s.
