OUR MINES.
CAMBRIA. The reef in the leading stope at No. 3 levc 1, which has been looking well and showing excellent minerals daring the past few days, was broken down last night, when the gratifying haul of 70U>i of specimens and picked stone vn obtained, gold being left showing in the face of the stope. This haul was obtained from well in to the hangingwall portion of the reef, which also contains nice minerals, so it is just possible that the run of gold may yet carry down to the floor of the drire, as the whole of the hangingwall portion here baß not yet been taken down. The distance from the winze to where this haul of stone was obtained is 15ft, and certainly augurs well for the richness of the block being opened out between No. 3 and the intermediate le?el. The reef in the western drive at No. 3 level hat been broken down, and colors of gold were seen in the quartz, which earriei favorable minerals. . : '!. MOANATAIRI EXTENDED. *; A strong flow of water is still isstriog from the north drive. The stringers cut • day or two ago show a considerable qaan* tity of antimony, the first observed in the mine. . THAMES GOLDEN CROWN. :< The shaft reef in the winze was broken down^yesterday, when colors of gold were freely seen through the quartz. DART. Operations in this mine have been stopped, and the men are now engaged re* moving the rails; &c, from underground to the surface. GOLD RETURNS. , Kubanui Hill. — A crushing for Challis and party produced 6ozs lldwts
We are glad to be able to report that the improvement, referred to some weeks ago as baring taken place in the olaim of ■ the Prospecting Association, shows no sign of falling off. The leader continues small, but at every breaking down there is a good show of gold, and some of the quartz obtained lately has shown the precious metal in more than usual abun« dance. The rein from which this was got is not the one first worked on, but a small branch leader dipping into it from the' upper or eastern side. From the point of junction to the surface where this branch Tein crops out, and where it has Been proved to be gold-bearing, there is about forty feet of backs, and present appear* ances lead to the supposition that a great i part of this will prove payable. We trust the success that is attending the operations of the Association will be'the means of opening up other veins of equal or greater richness.—News.
