FATAL ACCIDENT IN THE PRINCE IMPERIAL MINE.

At about a quarter to 4 o'clock this afternoon a sad accident happeaed to a man named Hugh McCormick, employed at the Prince Imperial mine. From the particulars, as far as we could learn, it appears that MoOormick was engaged working in the stopes at No. 5 lev>l, and had just fired a shot. The smoke had not cleared away, when the unfortunate man went to see what effect it had. He had hardly done so when a mass of mullock fell on him, killing him almost instantaneously. Just after the shot had been fired, Mr Dawson Crawford warned McCormick to wait until the smoke had cleard away. Mr Crawford is also injured by mullook having fallen on his hand, severely bruising it. Had he been nearer MeCormick he would have suffered a similar fate, as the falling mass almost grazed him. McCormick's body was conveyed to the surface as speedily as possible, and was then taken charge of by Constable O'Brien, and removed to the Prince Imperial Hotel. An inquest will probably be held to moraow.
