The body discovered near Loveil's Flat, Otago, hae been identified as that of James Barr, a swagger. Two other awagsmen pinsing heard him moan, and remained with him till he died. A post mortem examination is to be held, as rough on rats was found on his person. '
The tender of Messrs Campbell and Co. of Dunedin, has been accepted for the tupply to Government of creoeoted sleepers. The mtaber to be supplied is 160,000, and the contract price is £29,909.
In addition to what we have already published concerning the great Anti-Compulsory Vaccination * Demonstration at Leicester, England, Mr Wm. Tebbs writes ;—" The pro cession, which was over seven miles long, wilh four bands and six hundred banners, was received with enthusiasm by a vast concourse of people. The odious Tuccination Acts were burnt in the market place before the Mayor and Chief Constable amid the plaudits of thirty thousand spectators. At the mass meeting in the evening it was elicited by a formal vote that over three hundred persons present had witnessed cases of injury and death from vaccination, and the resolution condemning the law was carried by universal acclamation. Telegrams tind letters of sympathy from various parts of the U.S. were read amid loud demonstrations of approral.
Stowmt Taiwkanga is at present obtaining the signatures of natives to a petition asking that the natives should have entire power of self-government. One clause of the petition tuns as follows {—"That your petitioners pray and beg to add that we are dissatisfied with the conetitu ion and operation of the present Native Lands Court and Native Committees,'and are convinced that tbe same are liable to great abuses, and we desire to have them abolished at this session."
The following new rule' under the Bankruptcy Act is gazetted :—The recommendation of a person for tbe appointment of Deputy Assignee of the estate of aDy bankrupt shall be made under the hand and seal of the Official Assignee for the district in which such bankrupt shall have filed his declaration or shall have been adjudicated a bankrupt, and such recommendation shall be duly filed in the Court in which bankruptcy proceedings then are. Any such recommendation when made and filed as aforesaid shall be deemed to be an application under section 40 of " The Bankruptcy Act, 1533."
A BBBVICB of song, entitled "Eva," with readings from " Uncle Tom's Cabin," will be given in the &rahamstown Wesleyan Church to-morrow evening. The proceeds are to be devoted towards the Ecliool renovation fund, to we have no doubt there will be a large attendance. .

The gum of £380 has been handed to the Otngo University for founding a women's scholarship. The sum was raised by subscript tion, and banded over with a request that •when £30 a year is derived from it a scholarship open to all women should be founded. -
At a public meeting held in Chrietchurch last night, under the Chairmanship of Mr Wynn Williams, resolutions,, were passed in favor of Government taking measures to facilitate the settlement of working men on tho land, and introducing cheap money in accordance ■with Sir J. Togel's scheme.
