OUR MINES.
CAMBRIA.
The manager reported yesterday as follows :—" The eastern drive on the reef at No. 3 level is being extended ; -there is a strong body of stone in the face, with a little mineral distributed through it. A leading stopo has been started from the winze eastward on the back of the No. 3 drive ; this slope is in about 6ft from the winze. There is some nice mineral in a portion of the reef here, which resembles the mineral where the gold is being obtained in the underhand stope. The underhand stope is in a distance of 20ft from the winze ; 601bs of specimens were obtained from here this morning. 9101bs of specimens have been removed from here during the week; there is still a fair show of gold in the floor of the stope. The intermediate drive westward is in about 25i't.; colors of gold are seen frequently here in breaking the quartz out. There is about sft. of quartz in the face in the leading stopes; on the back of this drive, gold is also being seen freely through the quartz. I have been unable to trace the No. 1 reef through the clay slide which it ran into, and 1 have now started to stope it out. From the winze to the slide there are about sft. of stringers of quartz mixed with mullock, which are carrying gold. I am selecing the best of it, and 24 men are employed in stopes above No. 2 level, and are getting out fair crushing dirt. A crushing of 547 loads of quartz and 12001bs of specie mens have been completed for the excellent return of 22420zs ISdwts melted gold.. —H. W. Moobe. In breaking the reef in the leading stope at No. 3 level the manager secured 35lbs of specimens, a fair show of the precious metal being left shewiog. DAE WIN. . There being a considerable amount of quartz on hand, the manager commenced crushing at the Herald battery today with 10 head of stampers. The manager's report for the past week is as follows:— "Driving is being continued on the reef at No. $ level. Colors of gold are occasionally seen in stringers in the hanging* wall of the reef; there is also a great improvement in the country on the hang* ingwall. I think it would be advisable to withdraw the men from the stopes above No. 2 level, and put them on to stope from lhe wiDzeon the reef at No. 3 level, until we see how the crushing is going to shape.—H, W. Moobe." NEW MANUKATJ. • Stoping is proceed ing on No. 2 leader as usual, and ■ little picked stone is sometimes obtained. Driving is proceeding on the new leader out near tUeebaftj it is-9
or 10 inches wide, and about lOlbs of picked stone were obtained yesterday.
