Tauranga Election.
The poU'mg for the election of a mem* ber of the House of Eepreseatatires to fill tho Tauranga Beat, rendered vacant by the elevation of the Hon. Capt. Morris to the Upper House, took place yesterday, "and resulted in the return of Mr John Sheehan—formerly -member for the Thames—by a majority of 15 votes. The Thames end of the electorate, as will be seen by a reference to the figures given, went in for a hearty support of Mr Sheehan, and to the efforts of bis friends from Thames"'to' Owhafba*the^^ victor" may attribute his success. Considerable interest was manifested in the issue here, and in the Thames district, a substantial majority in every division: but one j ~Puriri-i-WBB accorded to Mr Shee* han. The numbers, as telegraphed, were: 535 for the successful candidate, and 520 for Mr Kelly; giving the, foriiler a majority of 15 votes " The result. was received with pleasure by Mr Sheehan's Thames friends.
