HAWERA.

Major Atkinson addressed a meeting of his constituents, numbering about ICCO persons, at Hawera last night. The speech lasted two hours, and the subjects touched upon were — federation, defence, local government, charitable aid, public works, native affairs, land, finance, taxation, and cheap money. Major Atkinson said he had no confidence in the present Govern*ment, but would confine himself to fair criticism, and abstain from obstruction. He was satisfied that the colony was sound \s> heart, and he looked forward to more prosperous times, to be reached by the old road of industry and hard work. An almost unanimous vote of thanks and confidence was accorded him.
