BOROUGH COUNCIL.
At the fortnightly meeting of the above Council, held in tbe Chambers last night there were present —Tbe Mayor, Crs McGowan, Reid, Wood, Dauby, and Rensbaw.—The minutes of last mooting were read and confirmed.—Mrs Lawrence wrote asking the Council to allow her relief daring the winter season, as her husband was not .working; while a communication was also received from G. Palmer, asking the Council to supply him with a pair of blankets. Referred to the Charitable Aid Committe.—A communication was re ceivod from Government stating that a refund of the amount expended in Charitable aid (£9O 18s Id) had been remitted to the credit of the Council.—The Bank of Few Zealand wrote stating that the committee appointed by the Council hating interviewed them re the question of immediate provision for interest, in addition to the one-fourth alloca tioo, it had been decided that the matter remain in abeyance.— Mr D. A. Tole, Commissioner of Grown Land 9, wrote stating that the Council's communication re rendering available for ■election Crown Lands situate between Thames and Tapu, had boon received, an«L would be laid before the Lands Board at its next meeiing.— The Works Committee *"" reported that having ascertained that tbe work undertaken by Mr C. Hart in Upper Albert street would require to be kepi in constant repair* they would recommend that a sum equal to A his yearly rates be allowed him to-keep-it in'- repair Bnring the year ; but owing to the financial position of the Council, they could not recommend the expenditure of the amount necessary to put the Monnatairi and Waiotahi aqueducts in substantial repair, and suggested that for tbe present only temporary repairs be effected. Adopted.— Thereport of the Water Supply Committee stated that as the cost of supplying Bella street residents with water would not ex* ceed £8, they had authorised the work to be done. The reply from the Town Clerk, Auckland, slated that the Gas Co. there did. not pay the non-consumers' water rate OM their plant, and the committee recommended the adoption of the same practice by the Council. Thereport was adopted.—;A bye-law was passed, enabling the.Council to recover arrears for the construction of footpaths, and ordered it to be printed,—Formal notice of motien re the striking of new rates were given by Crs Eenshaw and Dauby, and the meeting tone.
