Accident in the Cambria Mine.
About 10.30 o'clock last night an acci* dent occurred at the Cambria G.M. Co.'s mine, resulting in painful injuries to two of the company's employe*, viz: Messrs Bichard Owens and John Berryman. The two men, who were working in the stopes at the time, were engaged in removing the charge from a hole which had missed fire, and had succeeded in' extracting about half the powder, when by some means t (probably a spark) it became ignited, and a terrific explosion 'occurred, scattering pieces of quartz in all directions. At the time of the explosion Berry mp.n was stooping over the hole with the intention of turning (he drill, and thus received the full force of the discharge in his face, which is somewhat seriously burned. His mate (Owens) received a large gash on his forehead, above the left eye, by a pieoe of quartz striking him, although at the time. of the explosion he was a short distance from the hole. Owing to winding operations being suspended while the boiler wag' being inspected, some little difficulty wa« experienced in getting the unfortunate men to the surface, when they were at once conveyed to the Hospital, where Drs. Payne and Callan were promptly in attend* ance and dressed their wounds. Several pieces of quartz were extracted from the gash on Owens' forehead, which is the principal injury sustained by him, but Berryman's face is much swollen, and fears were, entertained that his eyesight was affected, but.this has not yet been definitely ascertained. The men are noir doing as well as can be expected under the circumstances, and are receiving every attention at the hands of the Hospital authorities.
