London May 11. Khartoum to l:e Abandoned.
Id the House of Commons to-day, the Marquis of "Hartington, Secretary of State for War, in reply to a question regarding operations in the Soudan, said Government had decided to make Wady Haifa the advanced frontier, and withdraw the troops from that point entirely on the rising of the Nile. The expedition to Khartoum would be abandoned, and an endeavor made to establish the administration at Dongola. It is intended to complete the railway system along the Nile, ;but the projected line from Suakim to Berber would be relinquished. In conclusion Lord Hartington stated that England would retain possession of Suakim until arrangements could be concluded for the occupation of that port by a civilised power.
