CALEDONIAN. Cleaning up took place at the Herald battery this rooming for the satisfactory yield of 73ozs 7dwts melted gold. In all 75 loads of general dirt were treated, 8 loads from the drive at No. 3 level yielding the good return of 49ozs amlgam ; 41 loads from No. 2 level, 1290z3 amalgam; while 28 loads from Ellis' leader, at No. 1 level, .proved very disappointing, only yielding 31ozs amalgam. The drive haring broken through to the winze, the men are now engaged timbering up, and when this is completed driving eastward will be commenced. • It is encouraging to note that a few colors of gold were Been at the bottom of the winze. MOANATAIRI EXTENDED. A contract has been let at 27s 6d per foot, to the persons who sunk N the last lift, for sinking the shaft 78 feet further, which will take it twenty feet below No. 3 level on the Cambria. The northern crosscut has been suspended. In the north-cast drive the lode is two feet wide. The quartz is white but kindly in appearance, and a stone containing a strong, dab ' ~ of gold was seen this morning. The' manager thinks this a continuation of the leader found at the Cambria boundary. About 75ft further should reach Mont* goraery's shaft, in which, reports lays, . specimens were found. .GOLD RETURNS. Diamond Gtjlly.—(Waiorongomai.)
