In the House of Commons to day, Mr Gladstone referred to tho recent negotia tions between Earl Dufforin and the Ameer of Afghanistan as entirely satisfactory. Speaking of the recent hostilities at Penj-deh, Mr Gladstone informed the House that as there was considerable discrepancy between the British account and that forwarded by General Komaroff, Government had telegraphed to Sir Peter Lumsden to ascertain the actual facts of the ease. ._ Bombay, April 13. The Ameer of Afghanistan left Eawal Pindi to-day for Cabul, after reiterating his continued friendship for Great Britain. London, April 13. It is announced that in view of the existing crisis, the Admiralty has resolved on immediately reinforcing the naval squadron on the Australian and China stations. Information is to hand that the Russian Government are purchasing swift cruisers in the United States. % The Standard this morning publishes'a Jelegram from its own correspondent in Central Asia, dated the 7th inst., to the effect that the Russian troops are pursuing their advance along the Murghab River.

Information has been receired that im» mediately on the receipt of the' news of the conflict between the Kussians and Afghans, the Czar of Eussia wired to General Komaroff, demanding an explanation. The Ameer of Afghanistan was much distressed on hearing of the engagement against his troops. April .11. • It is mentioned that England could have ready for embarkation, should hostilities with Eussia occur, 20,000 men at two days' notice. The patriotic fund of the Bengal natives has amounted to 70 lacks of rupees (£840,000). April 12. The Suez Canal Reported to lie in Danger. A It is feared that the Eussians will make an attempt to disable the Suez Canal. Admiral Hornby will probably com* mand thg Baltic fleet. The Black Sea, Sea of Azov, and the lower portion of the Baltic will remain open. Reported Expression of German Emperor's OpinionThe Morning Post states that the Emperor of Germany considers General Komaroff the agressor in the recent action against the Afghans. His Majesty urges that the Afghan difficulty should be settled by arbitration at the annual meeting of Emperors at Skiermevice.
