OUR MINES.
OAMBBIA. The crosscut at No. 3 level broke through to the winze on No. 1 reef today, thus encouraging gocl ventilation. The leader has not yet.come to hand, but it will probably be intersected after driving a few foct further. There is a considerable distance yet to drive, however, before the main reef will be cut. NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL. Driving is proceeding northwards on the N0.4 lead atNo. 5 level, andthedirtcoming to hand should prove of good grade, colors and dabs of gold ,being freely seen each breaking. Tbe lead is also of fair size. In extending the drive, tbe manager will carry it in about nine feet high, so that timbers can be put in, and stoping started at once. The other works are being carried on as usual. SAXON. In driving seaward on No. 2 lead at No. 6 level," there is a fair-sized body s of stone in the face, and several strong dabs of gold have been seen in breaking down. The No. 3 reef, in the winze from No. 5 level, also "looks very well, carrying splendid mineral. ' QUEEN OF BEAUTY. The pumps started again at five o'clock th's morning, and though they will have to be worked slowly for a short time, till the crank.pin is worn smooth,- the water is being steadily reduced. The magnitude of the flow may be judged from the fact that though the pumps were only stopped 20 bourse the water filled 250 ft of driving atNo. 11 and rose to N0.,10 level, or 80ft. of the shaft. It is expected, however, that once the machinery is put at full speed/rapid progress will be made in clearing the shaft. MOANATAIRI. Cleaning up took place to-day, for the return of 59fozs lOdwts melted gold. For this 90 tons of quartz, broken from the the stopes on No. 9 reef, have been passed through the battery. GOLD RETURNS.
