COUNTY COUNCIL.
The usual monthly meeting will be held tonight. The following reports will be among those laid on tho table :— ■* OHINEMTJBI BIDING.
The Foreman of Works reports:— Kitikati Road: Daring the month I have had men on this road, raking in metal, clearing watertables, &c.; also reforming portions of the rood on the plains ; it is now in Tery fair condition, bat it-will be aeceisary to keep men on a little while longer before wet weather sets in. IV Aroha Boad: Men hare also been on this road, and are making good improvements. Waiiri Koad: Some improvements have been effected on this road, and a bridge •rected between the settlement and the mines. Waitekauri Koad: Portions of this road between Kinsella's and the battery have been repaired, but more will require to be done to put it in good condition. A bridge has has been erected on the road to Karangahake ; the track from the battery to the Ivanhoe mine requires widening and grading; it was originally made by the miners, and nothing at all done by the County. The road between the Golden Crown and the Martha mines is too sharp at some of the bends to admit of a sledge being taken round, and as the Martha and Hidden Treasure people are taking out quartz, they ask that the road be improved, so that they can.get their quartz to the battery. A sum of £15 would be sufficient for this purpose. Waitawheta Boad is in a very bad state; lix bridges are completely rotten and broken down. Attached is a section of Arney street in Paeroa for forming and metalling; the street from Bcbson's to Post Office will require.metalling before winter sets in to keep it passable for the traffic, it being the only way" for the mail coaches. Outfall drains from Puke road are much in need of cleaning out, and the road repaired. "WATER BACE. . The,Surveyor'B report is as follows: — Qn the 9th of March an accident occurred at the Golden Crown battery, which caused the stoppage of all the batteries on the cast»iron main for obout 5-q- hoursDuring the removal of the Mater engine, which was about to be replaced by a Felton wheel, sufficient care was not taken to properly block the sub main, and this, combined with the jar in loosening some of the joints connecting the sub-main with the water engine, caused one of the lead ing joints of the sub-main to carry away. Bepairs were effected without aDy delay On Saturday, the.2 Bib, themanager and one of ..the directors of the Queen of Beauty G.M. Co, waited on me and requested to be supplied with more than the «pare water of the race, as with the quantity being supplied they could not gain on the large inflow ojF water recently struck in the low level of that mine. Under tbe circumstances, I conferred with the only member of the Water Bace Committee available, and .with such members of the Council as I could find, and stopped BullYbattery to augment the supply for pumping, the arrangement to continue till tbe meeting of the Committee on Tuesday evening, by which date I requested the company to lay the matter before the Council for consideration by letter. BO ABE Or "VVOBKB. This Board recommended as follows :— *' 1. That as the bridge on Dufty's land at Parawai was carried away before any race water was turned into the creek, the Council should not entertain his application for the erection of a new one. 2. That Hoani Nuhe should be informed the road proposed to be taken from G. Newland's land is a matter controlled by the General Government. 3. That Edward ; Bain's application for an allowance upon bis old contract on the Katikati road, ■hould not be granted, as tbe work done was included is his agreement and specification. 4. That, subject to the Warden's approval, the advice of the members of the Biding, and" under the Surveyor's supervision, a further sum of £42 be expended on the Welcome battery road. 6. That Joseph Punch's demand for £18, ; for alleged purchase of a hut,' be not entertained, as the evidence adduced at : the last meeting of the Council showed i that no such purchase bad been made. 6. That the Raogiora crossing on the river be proclaimed a ferry, and your Board empowered to draft the necessary by-law in relation thereto. 7. That the Surveyor be instructed to prepare a specification, and invite tenders for constructing that portion of Augustus street, to avoid Morris' allotment. 8. That an additional week's extension of time be granted for receiving tcndcrß for the RangioraXomata road. .9. That lenders be invited for supplies of sawn and other timber, ironmongery, water pipes, &c, &c—The following works have received attention : •—Specification for the Waitoa road, made and approved; a culvert in Irishtown, made and fixed; the Waibi and Baogiora bridges, now under repair; tenders accepted for metalling selected portions of the' County main road; steps and foot" path in Bichmond street repaired; contract accepted for Thorp's ontfall drain, and the survey of the coal track being proceeded with."
