ANNUAL PEIZE FIRING.

Wellington, Yesterday.
During the afternoon the staff considered the protest lodged by Gunner Parslow, of the Auckland Carbine team, against the Napier Carbine team, on the ground that two of the latter team fired out of one carbine. After consideration, the protest was sustained, and the Napier team are therefore disqualified.
Purnell (disqualified for the Rifle Bolt) intends to contest the decision of the staff, and has applied to be supplied with a fall copy of the minutes of the proceedings on which his score has been disallowed. Hs asserts that when he used the two rifles it wa3 in the Wanganui match,*which did not count for the belts. The matter will probably be brought before the committee again to morrow.

The various representatives of the New Zealand Regiment of Artillery, who have been present at the Rifle Association Meeting, were entertained at dinner to*>night by the battery.
This day. .. The weather is cold and showery. Lieut. Parnell has written to the Executive and Staff protesting against their decision of yesterday; it' is understood he has also take steps in the Supreme Court to obtain an injunction to prevent the distribution of prises. The whole question is to be re-opened this afternoon.
The following is the result of the Cabbine Team Match :— Port Chalmers Artillery, £40 ... 382 Wellington Navals, No. 1, £20... ... 379 Christchurch Artillery, £10 •... 366 Oamaru Artillery, £5 ... ... 366 Wellington Artillery, No. 1 ... 366 Auckland Artillery ... ... ... 366 Alexandra Cavalry ... ... ... 358 Wellington Artillery, No. 2... ... 356 Napier Artillery ... .... ... 342 Wellington Navals, No. 2 .... ... 307 Napier fired at the last range one man short, but in any case could not have taken the prize, as the team was disqualified yesterday. The Wellington Navals No. 2 fired two men short.
Up to last night the following were the amounts won by each district :-7-Wan-ganui, £104 ; Otago, £61; Wellington, £60; Thames, £48; 'Auckland, £34; Masterton, £26; Nelson, £24; Napier, £22; Blenheim, £21; Christchurch, £14; Taranaki, £13; Timaru, £10; Oamaru, £6 ; Greymouth, £1.

The championship will probably be decided by 4 p.m.
