The racing commenced with the

Feee Handicap, L mile, lOOsovs.—Mr W. Douglas' Christina, 7st 7lbs, 1; Capt. Jiussell's Kincraig, 7st 101 bs,, 2; Mr Karanai's Mangaobone, 6st 9lbs, 3. Gabble (7st 81b?) and Oberon (7st) also ran. A good start was effected, when Gabble took the lead, Mangaohone being second, Kincraig third, and Oberon last. The order was much the same at the back of the course, where Christina was pulling the boy out of the saddle. At the railway turn Christina took the lead, Mangaohone being second, and Gabble third. On entering the straight, .the same order was maintained, and though Kincraig came gamely under the whip the race was never in doubt, and was won easily by two lengths. Gabble never tried a bit. The win was a popular one. Time, lmin. 48secs. Totalisator dividend : Inside, £3 7s, and Outside, £2 lls. Maiden Hubdle Eace, of lOOsovs., 2 miles.—Barron's Director (Edwards), aged, 12st 31bs,; 1; Gilpin's Messenger (Gilpin), 4 years, 12st, 2; Karauria's Tauhara (Maher), 6 years, 12st 31b,s, 3; Cleary's Harimataunga, list, also ran. A, good start was effected, but at the first the pace was very slow. At the first hurdle Director was first over, Tauhara second, arid Messenger third. On passing the stand the first time Messenger got the lead by half a length, and from this out a ding dong race between the two ensued, the other two being nowhere. On entering the straight, the grey came away and won easily by three lengths, the third horse twenty .lengths off. The totalieator dividend inside was £3 17s.
