Mr Ballanco does not favor the proposal to sond any men from-New \Zealand4o the Soudan ; tho questiou has however npt been considered in tho Cabinet, but it is not all at all probable that any offers will be accepted ; should it bo decided to send a contingent, the Government would itself make a careful selection of both.men and officers. Auckland, Last night. Up to the present 630 names of persons desk'ous of proceediag to tho Soudan have been sent to Lieut. A. D. Bennett. These include 63 names from the Thames,, and 70 from the Kaipara district.
' Dunedin, Yesterday. Dr James Campboll, of Brunnerton. has offered bis services as surgeon to the Dunedin contingent for the Soudan, and they,have accepted. He went through the Franco-Prussian war.
