A banquet was given to Mr Ballanoe last night.' In a speech on the occasion, the Native Minister, promised to get legislative 'powers to clear up incomplete land transactions on this coast, which he said waa the only thing to give it renewad prosperity. Mr Ballance proposed the toasfc of the Harbor Board, and urged the Board to make a breakwater on Sir John Coode's plan. He promised to visit the Ngatiporua tribe at Waipute before the session. Mr Ballance left by the Hmemoa which arrived from Auckland at midnight. During his stay Mr Ballanco attended a large native meeting of Natives and made a speech generally of the tenor of that at Eihikihi. He received a number of deputations and answered many cases favorably. He refused a Native request that he should stop the proceeding-^ of the Waiapu Land Court.
