The deputation to, Sir, Julius. Vogel re the proposed School of Miues was somewhat disconcerted at Vogel asking, if ,the promoters desired a Professor of Mineralogy, as if so, it was doubtful if such a person would be qualified to giro practical instructions in dealing with , quartz and other minerals. Some of the deputation thought a great object would be gained by
the instructions given in a School of Mines, for while a Professor might determine the component parts of quartz or minerals, yet he might not know practically
the best means of obtaining the precious
metak. v However, the deputation was requested to write at length, and the mutter would receive consideration.
Mr Yaile, of Eailway Eeform fame,
had an interview with Sir' J. Vogel, and while the great financier was unable to
agree with the proposals as', a. whole, he admitted the force of some of his sugx gestions- ,'''.'■■■■■.'.' Mrs Hunter, well known on the, Thames, and a sister of Mrs McLaughlin, of Mackaytown, Ohinemuri, died rather suddenly yesterday in Newton.
