Cold-bloodod Murder at Pokeno.
A HUSBAJND SIXTY YEAES OLD
SHOOTS HIS WIFE.

Yesterday a settler at Pokeno, named Robert Prendergast, shot his wife through, the heart in their house. After committing the deed, he went to .Mercer, got drunk, and told several people he had shot his wife, but was not believed, as he made other incoherent statements, and was in a lunatic asylum two years ago. The murder was committed about midday, and was not discovered till evening, when two sons went home and found the dead body of their mother on the kitchen floor. Prendergast was arrested ' last, night, and said—"Oh, yes, I done it; you'll get the pistol on the shelf." A large horse pistol, recently discharged, was found as stated. Accused and his victim are both about sixty years of age.
