St. George's Church Annual Meeting.
The annual meeting of the parishioner! of the above church was held in the £ol« leston street schoolroom last evening, the Rev. P. G. Evans pr< siding., Mr E. T. Wild man (Churchwarden) read the annual report, which showed that the receipt* had exceeded the expenses by £114 13s 9d. The general offVrtory and seat rents had fallen iff slightly. During the year the debt had been reduced by £134 18* 6d, and £100 had been.remitted to Auckland on account of the debt to the Standing Committee. The overdraft had been reduced from £371 to £255 43, the total indebtedness (with £256 5s 3d due to the Standing Committee) being £511 9i Bd. The system of collecting by cards, in small sums, worked so successfully that it had been decided to stop the special collections and divide the amount raised by the eardi between the overdraft and the. Standing Committee debt. The choir had rendered good service, but it was hoped- that the congregation wonld give more assistance in musical matters. Mrs Lush's generous gift of a site for a parsonage was referred to, and the vestry stated that, finding the cost of placing stained glass in the west window, in memory of the late Archdeacon Lush, too great, they had asked for estimates from England, for glazing within the west triple lancet window, or else the baptistry window, the cost of which woald be about £50. The balance sheet shoved the receipts to have been £850 4s 9d, the following being the principal items:—• General offertory, £387 5s 3d ; special offertories, £39 2s 8d; seat rents, £94 10s; debt reduction fund. £150 9s 3d.
Mr E. T. Wildman was appointed Minister's Churchwarden for the year, and Mr W. H. Airey was elected People's Warden. The following were elected vestry:—Messrs Lush, Heighway, Hill* Gerring, Denby, Wood ward, Jarvis, Coatb, Harrison, and Waite.
Mr Wildman opposed the setting aside of one Sundays' collection for the Hospital* on the ground that Government had virtually taken the control of the institution, and a resolution declining the Com* mittee's request was carried unanimously. An expression of gratitude to Mrs Lush, for her gift of a parsonage Bite, was ordered to be conveyed to the donor, on the motion of Mr Lush; rotes of thanks were also accorded. to the choir and organist, the superintendent and teachers ,of, the Sunday-school, the lay readers (Messrs Lawlor, Haselden, Phillips, and It. O. Stewart,) and the lady collectors. The incumbent and congregation thanked the late Churchwardens and Vestry. After appointing Messrs Burgess and Allom auditors, the meeting was closed bj the Benediction, and a vote of thanks to the Chairman. ~ * '-:<
