LoNDON^January 30. Colonel Stewart, who was severely wounded at the recent engagement at £1 Metemneh, is recovering.
The Mahdi has been strongly reinforced, and is still in the neighbourhood of El Metemneh.

Major General Buller has only been temporarily appointed to succeed Major* General Stewart in his command in the Soudan.

Speaking concerning the recent dynamite outrages, the Hon. Mr Chamberlain siid they ought to be denounced by Mr Parnell and his parly. The steamer Chusan, which went ashore at the Island of Perim, in the lied Sea, his been got off without sustaining any serious injury. Mr W". E. Forster suggests that a colonial conference should bo held in London respecting Imperial defences. It is expected that Germany will shortly make an additional annexation of islands in the Pacific. :■..

The liquidator in the estate of the Oriental Hank has made a fresh offer for the settlement of the claim of the Victorian Government.
