A kiw rival to the Australian colonies is threatened. It is stated that an agent of some English capitalists lately visited Warsaw to ascertain if butchers' meat could be profitably sent from Poland to England. He is now in the south-western province of Russia - with the same object. If arrangements can be made with the dealers, special rail war waggons, furnished with refrigerators, will be constructed to convey meat across the conti aent It could be delivered in London on the third or fourth day after being despatched, according to tbe locality from which it waß sent. The present moment is said to be favorable for such a scheme, owing to the want of fodder. For instance, bullocks fetch from £1 to £5 per bead, and cows, whioh were retailed at £5 a head last year, now sell for £2 10s. But should this design be carried out, the meat inspectors in England (remarks a correspondent in Odessa) will have to be on the* alert for cattle disease, which is endemic throughout Southern Bus ia.
