A fair start has been made with the work of cutting out the chamber at the 747 ft. level, but owing to the large quantity of water issuing from the sandstone, and the ground being a little loose just at this point, progress will be slow for a few days. False sets are now being used to ensure the safety of the workmen. CALEDONIAN. The winze on the Bed Queen leader at No. 2 level has been begun, but the manager does not intend to break down the reef till he has a good stretch of it stripped.
