Waorongomia Mining.
Work in all of the claims is Bgnin if full swing. On Wednesday a commence scent was made on the tramway to senr down staff from the principal mines, and crashing operations will be at once returned. During the holidays the whole force of berdans, both at the tailings plant and battery, hare been kept goiDg or tailings, principally thos>e of the New Find Co., and a large quantity has beei reduced during the suspension of otliei operations The returns of amalgam obtained for the period are not yet to hand New Find.—ln the north end of the low le?el a fresh contract has been let for •160 ft. ■■ This distance will bring the fsce Whder the winze now going down in the Arizona level, and when the connection is made the vast quantities of payable stufl contained in the blocks north and south 0' tbe winze will then become available. A good supply of crushing dirt is cominp fn m the Tfirious parts of the mine, and crushing will be recommenced on Monday, probably with 15 head of stampers. Coionist —As stated in our report last week most of the work in this mine is now being done on contract. The contractors hate fairly settled down to their work. and are ranking fair progress. In the dme northward the reef is over three feet in width, and if) yieldir g some good-looking stone in which faint colors of gold are occasionally visible. The lode in the oppo ■ite face is'spmewhat smaller, there being only about 2ftl of crushing stuff. In the ■topes the rref in one place measures over 7ft.. in thickness. Some work is being done by wages men in the block underneath the north end of No. 2 level, but the stuff at present being obtained is of rather poor quality. Fbemieb —The vein worked on prior to thebolidays, though rather small, is still yielding payable stone. It is the intention of the manager to make an effort shortly to pick up the same vein in the intermediate drive from the winze that wai sunk in the smithy level. Should he succeeed in finding it there he will have a large block of ground to operate on. Diamond Gully.—Work in the slopes is going steadily on, a- d with the usual satisfactory results, but the hard country is a drawback to the getting out of quartz in large quantity. Waiobokgomai—ln the drive on the reef in the south end of the claim the prospects are still encouraging. The gold which hitherto has been confined to the hangingwall part of the lode is now visible on the footwall also, and it is not unlikely that the whole body of stuff, from 3 to 4ft. in thickness, will prove payable when brought under the stampers. Work is likewise going on in the low and intermediate levels on the reef near the.northern boundary. In the low level a considerable quantity of quartz has been broken.down during tbe week, but no gold was visible. Tbe stone is still overcharged with the baser minerals, and until these in a measure disappear it is not likely the precious metal will be found in paying quantity. In the intermediate drive fair gold bearing stuff continues to be got. The hopper aud tramway should be finished next week.
Mat Queen. —The reef in the low level is at present over three feet in width. The stone does not yet show gold quite so freely as some of that got from the winze, but a large portion of the stuff is likely to prore payable. A rise of five or six feet will connect tbe level with the winze, and when communication between the two is effected, stopirig operations can then be commenced. —News.
