The following return shows the number of persons arriving at, and departing from, the different New Zealand ports during the year ending the 31st December, 1884: —Arrivals : .Russell, 6 ; Auckland, 6041; Wellington, 4556 ; Napier, 19; Nelson, 1; Wes port, 2 ; Greymouth, 52; Hokitika, 24; Ly ttelton, 511; Timaru, 16 ; Oamaru, 6 ; Dunedin, 4330; Invercargill, 4457: total, 20,021. Departures: Russell, 36; Auckland, 3153 ; Wellington, 1724; Wanganui, 1; Napier, 50; Picton, 1 ; Westport, 6; Greymouth, 86 ; Hokitika, 9; Ly ttelton, 1219; Timaru, 11; Oamaru, 14; Dunedin, 139; Invercargill, 4251: total, 10,700. It is important,to mention that in returns from which this table is made up, immigrants to the colony are all counted at the first port of arrival, and emigrants at the final port of departure. The following shows the principal ports which persons came (torn and departed for :—Arrivals : From the United Kingdom, 9860; Queensland, 8; New South Wales, 4431; Victoria, 3938; South Australia, nil; Western Australia, 17 j Tasmania, 670 ; other places, 1097 : total, 20,021. Departures: For the United Kingdom, 1457 ; Queensland, 9 ; New South Wales, 3829; Victoria, 3877; South Australia and Western Australia, 3; Tasmania, 453, other places, 1072: total, 10,700. I
