At the sitting last night of a sub com" mittee of the [Reichstag, appointed to consider the question of subsidising lines of mail steamers, and to report upou the details of the project, Heir de Boetticher, Secretary of State for the Interior, stated that a proposal to subsidise steamers trading to Australia had no connection with the Annexation of New Guinea. Dr Stephen, Imperial Postmaster General, spoke strongly in favor of the proposal, and declared that the inauguration of an Australian line of steamers was of special importance to Germany.

Telegrams have been received here announcing that a serious anti-French ugitation has been fomented in Cambodea, and the inhabitants are displaying great hostility. A body of French troops have been despatched from Saigon, capital of Cochin China, to quell the disturbance and restore order.
