A NEW TYPE-SETTING MACHINE.
-., AmHchine which makes type and sets it up at tbe same time has been invented in America, and is attracting a good deal.of attention at Washington. The new machine is operated the same way as a type-writer, expect that a cast is not made of each letter separately, but of each word or linie. It is very complicated, and not easily ießcribed. A word or line is siet—-• that itS, a 'matrix of type is made,in;soft copper, and the full line cast at the stroke of tbe finger. This already works fairly: •-- well, the thipg most lacking being ev'enbess of the faces as the type line appears. .Notwithstanding this' defect, it is said to be the opinion of experts that this wonderful machine will be workable, iAbout 60,000 dollars has this far been expended upon it, and it is bo far perfected as to. suggest a reasonable.hope of practical success. Then IMhere will be a resolution in the art of type making and typeiset* ting." and, according to another attthority, a girl with sense enough, to run a type writer can set up as much as ten men bow • can, and mske-her own type as she goes along j ■'■'
